Director profiles
Michael Johnson

Michael was the founder and senior partner in an award
winning consulting firm, Michael Johnson & Associates (MJ&A). The firm specialised in advice concerning industrial R&D, taxation, venture capital and strategic planning. It achieved market leadership in a couple of fields, successfully competing against far larger organisations.

Over 15 years of running MJ&A, Michael came to an understanding of the innovation community – members, concerns, needs – and the role that innovators play in the broader economic community.

In thinking about placing his own firm on the internet, Michael became aware that there was no space on the net dedicated to the needs of the innovation community.

In 1998 Michael sold MJ&A and took some time out to sail and cycle around the world and to think about how the power of the internet could best be harnessed for the benefit of the innovation community. In late 1999 Michael met Dominique Purcell who had independently arrived at many of the same conclusions – and iiiglobal was born.

Michael was educated in UK and Australia, has degrees in law and philosophy and has written books and commentaries on innovation issues. He has served as executive and non-executive director of a number of innovation companies as well as on government panels and university foundations.
